Saving Sunday - Mailbox!

My Highlights:

Zinger's - Looks tasty! I'm going to throw them in with my lunch at the end of the week when my vacation is over.

Dish Soap - Gain started making dish soap and I was lucky enough to get a free bottle shipped in the mail. (Facebook offering)

$3! - A company sent a survey to my old address. Luckily mail gets forwarded up until January or so. I thought this was just junk mail, but mom said I should always open junk mail. Never know what might be inside! So three $1 bills and a survey to complete for an additional $5. I gave the survey to my Sweetheart as I don't watch TV. It was SO SHORT! Wish I knew what survey company they partnered with so I can be sure they have an updated address.

SMART MONEY - I order a magazine off of amazon at some point in time. They sent me an e-mail saying they would take $10 off my next subscription purchase. I looked through some things I thought I would like that were $10 or less and picked one. I'm not turning away free product. ^_^

I'm going to try and post my free items I've received over the past week or two on Sundays. Not sure if it's going to work out or not, but I'll try. ^_^

Long Week, Now A Break!

It's been a long week since Monday. I've worked everyday and not had much time to shop or write in this blog! Yikes! Luckily I have then next few days off from CVS, but they are already filling up with plans. *sighs* Hopefully at least one day will be spent at home relaxing. (And the predictions of the heat wave starting tomorrow really encourage me to stay inside.)

I read on several blogs that CVS raised the limit of extra bucks generated from the new Crest items. (new limit 10) Checking on CVS.com with my online account the offer is until 09/04. That being the case it means no more extra bucks from that deal until latter. ^_^

Friday Night I bought:
2 Listerine Zero $3.99 each = $7.98
4 Crest Tooth Paste Clinical Gum Protection $3.49 each = $13.96
5 Oral-B Gum Floss Clinical Protection $3.49 each = $17.45
Total Before Coupons: $39.39

2 $2/1 Listerine Zero = $4.00
4 $1/1 Crest Tooth Paste = $4.00
5 $5/1 Oral-B Gum Floss = $5.00
Total After Coupons = $26.39

Received:
$4.00 EB Listerine Zero ($2 from each, limit 2)
$22.50 EB Crest/Oral-B ($2.50 from each, limit 10)
Net: FREE!

I actually split up the transactions so I didn't purchase more than 2 of the crest/oral-b products at a time. I hate having EB in increments over $5 because I find it harder to spend and I wanted to pay as little out of pocket as possible. Time for more running around. Maybe another post tomorrow? (If not Monday)

Catch up time

I've gotten a bit behind on my CVS & Rite Aid shopping trips. One trip was done last week at CVS, one was today at Rite Aid and the other trips were completed yesterday.

Last week I totally missed the fact that Right Guard & Dry Idea were on sale Buy One Get One AND there had been a coupon not long ago for BOGO on these! Also wanted to pick up some more Sobe as we had gotten a second delivery. We must have gotten hard hit with Sobe coupons on Saturday because when I arrived at 7am Sunday it was gone, gone, gone! (Last week's transaction: All items BOGO + combine BOGO Manufacture Coupons of BOGO = FREE!)

CVS, Sunday, I bought:
Blink Gel Tears .34oz $7.99
Crest Clinical Gum 4oz $3.49
Jack Link's $5.99
Jack Link's FREE (BOGO sale)
Total Before Coupons: $17.47

$1.50/1 Blink Tears
$1/1 Crest 4oz+
$5 off $15+ purchase CVS coupon (The one I got on Friday!)
Total After Coupons: $9.97

Received:
$7.99 EB Blink Tears
$2.50 EB Crest
Net: $.52 profit (+$.25 Green Bag Tag)

Normally I wouldn't have gotten the Jerky, but I've been craving it since I had some camping at the beginning of the month. I definitely like the stuff my friends had better. This peppered jerky was way over peppered and the tender cuts tasted almost as if they were under cooked? Maybe I'll give something else of theirs a try. If this is the standard I don't want any!

Rite Aid First Transaction:

3 2pk pilot EZ pen @ $1.00 each = $3.00

The 'Merchandise Non-Taxable' was a coupon that wasn't scanning. I think the cashier hit the wrong button. I fixed this today when I went back to the store. ($2 cash) To bad I did not notice that the Kerasal was the wrong one until just now. I wanted the one that was $6.99 w/ a $6.00 SCR. I'm planning on returning it at a latter date. (Hopefully this week?) I'm not sure if it will go through for a $6.00 SCR? Gerr . . . Also plan on submitting $2 MIR for the Stopon Pain.

Bust

I attempted two quick stops today after dropping Dearheart off at work. Walmart & Rite Aid are on the way to & from for the short 10/15 minute trip we make. I headed into Walmart to try and get the travel size Tide free after coupon. (Coupon has no size restrictions.) Too bad the cashier wouldn't take it. I couldn't Target to take them either last time. If it doesn't scan they don't want to take them. *frowns*

Rite Aid is all but across the street from Walmart. I stopped in to see if I couldn't score the free contact solution. I don't need it as I wear glasses, but I do like to donate it. One of these days I should ask my sister what she uses so if I pick up her brand free I could just give it to her. They were out. Their truck must have been in as there were blue totes all over the place. Maybe I can try before work tomorrow? Otherwise it will not be until 5pm on Friday when I get a chance. They may well be out again by then.

CVS Time!

This is a bit of a doozy here. I ended up doing four transactions. One on Saturday night of Sobe and three on Monday. I don't like doing more than two transactions at once, but it was late and no other customers in the store. ^_^ Which was good because I was more than ready to go home after spending all day working on cosmetics. I HATE cosmetics . . . enough said.

Saturday Night (We turn on next week's ad at 6pm when the Rx closes):
4 Sobe @ $1.59 each = $6.36

Total Before Coupons: $9.97

$1/1 Cottonelle (Coupon Insert)
$2/1 Cottonelle CVS coupon from a receipt
Total After Coupons: $6.97 cost

Grand Net Total: $1.44 cost

*Reminder these are all with out my discount and no tax. I do not include my discount as not everyone has one. Also people live in different place so I don't like adding in the tax and my discount mess it up.

I would like to get more Sobe, but I need to leave it for customers and the ad states limit 6. This means 6 offers for a total of 12 Sobe! Four of the ones I purchased are going to go to my mother. Maybe I could try another CVS? I feel weird shopping in other stores, but I'm sure I will get over that as I did when I started shopping at Rite Aid.

Planning Trips

Planning out my trips for this week now. I'm still catching up from my weekend of camping. See what happens when you go on vacation?! I have a few Qs to find and cut a part and this weeks coupon inserts to organize. I would like to keep up with that the best I can. It's a lack luster week for the mailbox, but I do have 3 items that showed up. Two of which are actually for my mom's girls.

Love Affiar with Weis & Kellogg's

I'm so giddy form buying buying all this cereal it's ridiculous! Weis was finally in stock on the cereals that I had coupons for. I stopped first at one on my way into work. I thought perhaps since Friday is typically one of the busiest day for grocery stores they would be stocked. At 6:30am I was hoping to beat out any 'competitors' I might have.

First Stop!
10 boxes of Kellogg's cereal @ $2.00 each = $20.00
Total Before Coupons: $20

4 $.75/1 Corn Flakes Simply Cinnamon
$1/2 Kellogg's Cereal
4 $.25/1 Weis doubling
Total After Coupons: $15.00

Received:
$7 Catalina (Weis sale)
$10 Catalina (Kellogg's)
Net: $2.00 profit!

First two transactions in one shot. I couldn't put it on the counter so proped against the wall and a door in the hallway.

After a long day at work, arriving 20 minutes early and leaving 30 minutes late, I decided to head to the Weis around that area as I still had more coupons with me. The previous Weis didn't even carry the new Cinnabon cereal.

Stop two:

10 boxes of Kellogg's cereal @ $2.00 each = $20.00
Total Before Coupons: $20

3 $.75/1 Cinnabon Cereal
3 $.25/1 Weis doubling
Total After Coupons: $17.00

Received:
$7 Catalina (Weis sale)
$10 Catalina (Kellogg's)
Net: Free!

I thought Dearheart (aka Sweetheart) was going to kill me. Nope. Turns out he likes Fruit Loops, so we'll be keeping one of those boxes. In the end I convinced him to run with me to our local Weis and get more! I grabbed the Frosted Flakes just for him. ^_^

Third Times A Charm:
10 boxes of Kellogg's cereal @ $2.00 each = $20.00
Total Before Coupons: $20

$.75/1 Cinnabon Cereal
4 $1/2 Kellogg's Cereal
$.25/1 Weis doubling
Total After Coupons: $15.00

Received:
$7 Catalina (Weis sale)
$10 Catalina (Kellogg's)
Net: $2.00 profit! (I added soap and pudding so I could use previous Catalina to pay less out of pocket.)

Mostly just the two kinds of cereal for the last transaction. I get home only to find out there is a new coupon of $1.50/2 which I could have used with the Fruit Loops. *sigh* Free is still free.

If all that's not enough, I contemplated going to another near by Weis and doing it all over again as I still had enough coupons to net 10 more boxes of free cereal. Truth be told though, I'm a bit tired so it didn't happen. 30 boxes is more than enough! I only plan on keeping four of them. I LOVE cinnamon! Two for me, two for my Sweetheart. Hope I get a chance to donate soon as I don't have much room in this apartment!

Did It Again!

I headed out to Weis this morning hoping that they had restocked on the cereal which is also part of this weeks deal. To bad the ones I have coupons for are still all gone! I'll try again tomorrow hopefully. Maybe Friday? Maybe Saturday? I hope I don't have to head out each day hoping to make my killing of a deal. *sighs* What can you do? I would get a rain check, but I don't think they rain check coupons that print out after the fact.

In lieu of cereal I went ahead and bought another round of Pop Tarts, again in ten different flavors. Can you really believe there are 27 flavors! Some of them are actually light versions, or fiber fortified but still. Do I really need another 10 boxes of Pop Tarts? No. With those special codes netting me movie tickets I would say it's worth it. $3.19 for two movie tickets! You better believe it. I'm not going to buy any more Pop Tarts because Weis only has 24 flavors. I have so many anyway, I don't know what to do with them. I want to give them to a food drive, but will they take them opened like that? I could always give them to my Sweetheart's brother.

With $17 of credit in hand I went and picked up produce, bread and milk. I don't typically shop at Weis as most items I buy are marked up $.10-$.50/product. Some of their sale prices are the regular price at Giant. (Florida's Natural Orange Juice is a good example.) I figured stocking up on basics & produce shouldn't put me to much over the edge.

So to grand total of yesterday & today netted me:
20 boxes of Pop Tarts 8ct
~Enough codes for 4 movie tickets up to a $12 value each!
2 boxes of Kellogg's Special K protein Snack bars 6ct
Loaf of bread
1/2 Gallon of Organic Milk
Lettuce (about 1 lb)
Seedless grapes (about 2 lb)
Organic Carrots (about 1 lb, this might actually be cheaper at Weis than Giant)
Celery (about 1 lb)
Portablla Mushrooms (about 1 lb)
Dozen Large Eggs (My one impulse buy @ $.88, I'm wanting omelets!)
Cottage Cheese
Grand Total: $27.15

It's a win! On a side note a fellow drove up to me asking for gas money. He was on his way to a city about 50 miles or so away and was almost completely out of gas. I remember he had a woman in the car with him and I think a kid or two. I thought it was very odd, but gave him $4 or $5. That's all the spending cash I had on me. Hope he made it to his destination okay. $4 or $5 doesn't go that far where gas is concerned.

Leaning Tower of Pop Tarts!

Holy Cow! It's just crazy! ^_^

Weis is currently running a special when you buy $20 worth of select Kellogg's products you get $7 back (in the form of a coupon). The best part is that several of those items are part of the nation Catalina when you buy 10 participating products you get a $10 off your next order. That's a great deal. Here we go!

10 Boxes of 8ct Pop Tarts @ 1.69 each = $16.90
Kellogg's Protien Snack Bars 6ct $3.29
Total: $20.19 (I didn't have any coupons for this deal)

Received:
$7 Catalina (Weis sale)
$10 Catalina (Kellogg's)
Net: $3.19!

Wait it gets better! I bought all different flavors of Pop Tarts to get unique codes which I will enter here. 10 different flavors is enough to claim 2 rewards. I plan on getting the movie tickets valued at up to $12! Just remember to check and see what movie theaters are participating near you.

CVS . . . No Rite Aid yet.

When doing things out of the norm it throws off the schedule for the week. I didn't work on Sunday (I was camping!) so no CVS that day. Monday was a recover from clean up, no Rite Aid either. I did work latter that evening at CVS. A trip I had to make so lets shop it up! I had no Extra bucks in my coupon folder. I always wonder what happens to the EB deals that are money makers for me. Then I remember I'm usually buying snacks or Coke for my Sweetheart.

CVS Deals of the Week:
Dulcolax $9.99
4 12pk of Coke @ $3.25 each = $13.00
Schick Hydro 5 Razor $8.97
Schick Hydro Shaving Cream $3.99
Total Before Coupons: $35.95

$4/1 Dulcolax (can't find the internet link for this one) or use $3/1 SS 08/08
$5/1 Schick Hydro 3 or 5 raiser SS 08/08
$3.99 Shaving Cream (Peelie on the Raiser, keep an eye out!)
Total After Coupons: $22.96

Received:
$9.99 EB Dulcolax
$3 Coke (must purchase 4!)
$4 EB Schick Hydro
Net: $5.97

I actually had this split into two transactions as I find it difficult at times to roll large amount of EB. (Anything over $5.) I am submitting the Schick Hydro for the Try Me Free Rebate. Not sure exactly how much I'll get. It is suppose to be after all discounts are applied, but I've heard people are receiving back the full purchase price. So I'm looking at either $3.97, $6.56 (paid out of pocket) or $8.97. Any way I look at it I win. ^_^

Private Island

Ever wish you had your own private island? For the weekend that's exactly what my friends and I got. (Private for the most part.) I love Yellow Creek camping grounds. The island just feels so magical & special to me. When I'm there I never want to leave. (Although it's nice to be home to sleep in a real bed.)

Wish I could say this was a super low cost trip for me. It was compared to most other trips people think about taking. I'm not including food as it was money budgeted into groceries, came from spending money or my Sweetheart treating me to a meal out. Time to do up the tally!

Tent $40 (Needed a new one this year)
2 Folding Chairs @ $20 each = $40 (My Sweetheart and I didn't have any for camping.)
Toll Roads $20.00 (It's a long way to travel!)
Gas $60 (about $20 less than I expected)
Camping fees @ $6/person (2)/night (2) = $24
Grand Total: $184

Not bad for a weekend with good friends who I haven't seen in over a year almost. About time for bed.

My Friends tents.

Bridge onto the island.

Fire for roasting marshmallows.

View of the river.

Mushroom I found!

Tank, Tina's dog. ^_^

Just Free

I'm going away this weekend so once again I 'bought' myself more free Sobe from CVS. These should be great for the road and once I get to the camp site. ^_^

Here are the freebies that I've gotten since last posting about them. I should try to post them once a week or something. I've noticed that tends to be a very common thing on these blogs. Maybe on Sunday? Or Monday?

P&G sent out their sample pack. I see it includes a $2/2 pantene q which does not exclude travel size. LOL. Not that I don't already have enough of those.

Simple Green sent a full bottle to try. Awesome! Now I need to decide if I want to try it or donate it. The place I've picked to donate to is in need of cleaning supplies last I checked. Mmm . . .

I'm happy to say Dentyne also sent a full sized package. It makes me smile to see full sized sample products.

Who Am I?

I've realized I don't have very good description for myself. I should make a better one. I'm going to take this slow, because I am not exactly sure where to begin. Let's start with something typical shall we?

-Where do I work?
This blog is certainly not my main job. Far from it. I started it to get a better of idea of where I am on my saving, deal shopping, get out of debt journey. I confess that I work at CVS. (Perhaps not the most typical, but a very important question given the nature of this blog.)

-If you work at CVS, why do you shop at Rite Aid?
Have you seen the shopping trips I've posted? I make money (in actual cash) and get free product by shopping Rite Aid. I don't think I will be stopping any time soon, unless they ditch the Single Check Rebate program. Honestly I wish CVS had something like that, but from a business stand point I understand why they don't.

-As a CVS employee don't you get a discount? Why don't you put that information in with your shopping trip details?
I do, but I'm not going to go into specifics about it. I'm not sure exactly how ethical it is to be posting about my employee discount. It's one of those 'secrets' that everyone knows about. Employees generally get employee discounts at the places that sell goods to the 'public.'
In addition I don't think it is a good idea to be posting/bragging (I realize in a way posting my deals is bragging) about an employee discount is not fair. My neighbor can't get the discount unless they work at CVS. My uncle, grandmother, best friend, even my Sweetheart (because we are not technically married) etc cannot get a discount unless they are employed by CVS.
Yes, this means I have to recalculate all the dollar amounts on CVS deals if my discount effects it.

-Does your Sweetheart have a CVS card? (Since he can't use the discount.)
NO! He's not a big shopper, which means I would have to do it. As an employee I am only allowed my employee card. It would mean big trouble if I were to use a regular CVS card. Not going to do it.

-Do you know the sales in advance?
Yes, but only by the sale fliers that are delivered to the store. I don't order the Ad ten or twelve weeks out. I know it gets order way in advance, but I don't know how far exactly because I don't order it.

-Could you post the CVS Ads on your blog?
Absolutely not. Ethics my dear friends, ethics. If you want to see ad previews go to I ♥ CVS to see what Erica has found. I will gladly point you in the direction of information, just can't give it out myself.
Technically I think it would be okay if I did post it. I worked at a store once that would hand out the following weeks flier if a customer asked for it. Currently I don't work at a store that does. We will however allow customers to return items they bought the day or two before that hadn't been on sale to re-ring at the sale price. I think that detail is left up to store managers.

Hoping to get another one of these up soon.

August Budget & Climbing

It's time for the monthly look at the budget. Also to out exactly how much closer I've coming climbing out of this dark money pit of debt. First the discipline of the month.

Bills (Electric) $103 *slight increase for excepted winter bills
Bunnies $56 (see below)
Car Insurance $42
Car repairs/upkeep $60 *increase because I really should put more into the car
Cellphone $30
Clothing $40 *I'm in desperate need of new shirts, pants, bras . . . everything!
Free Money $60 *Actually varies slightly depending on second job
Gas $200
Groceries $120
Health $28
Rent $280
Savings $20
Student Loans $501

Grand Total: $1540/month (A more accurate account of my take home pay.)

New Category
Bunnies $56
I have rabbits. As it was I took money out of groceries, spending money or the extra dollars that should have gone to paying off my student loans to buy supplies for them. No more! They need their own separate budget. If you have a pet I would recommend doing this! Now you know exactly what you are spending on your beloved pets.

Looks like they've chewed at the twisty ties again. *sighs* The ties hold Plexiglas in place so they don't go kicking their litter & stuff all over the place. It helps keep the rest of their play area cleaner.

Monthly Climb!
Grand Total Last Month: $46,694.41
New Grand Total: $45,791.67
Amount Paid Off: $902.74

I couldn't take it any more with all that money sitting around. Not when I have so much debt! I know I said I was going to put it aside for car repairs, but I should have enough to cover it. Between a savings account for car repair specifically & an emergency fund I should be able to cover everything. If not it means it's time for a new car. So I took some of the money and put it towards a loan instead. That's why it's a relatively huge jump compared to last month. If I have extra after fixing the car something similar will happen.
